GCS Drive Explorer — Support
GCS Drive Explorer works with a Google Cloud Storage bucket you already own. To use it you need a bucket and an Interoperability access key. The app does not provide storage and does not create accounts.
Setting up a connection
- In Google Cloud Console, open Cloud Storage → Settings → Interoperability and create an access key.
- In the app, open Settings and tap +.
- Enter a name, the bucket name, your access key and your secret, then tap Test Connection.
Deletion is turned off on new connections. Turn on Allow object deletion in a connection's settings if you want to delete or move objects.
Uploading
Share a file, a photo or a folder from any app and choose GCS Drive Explorer in the share sheet, then pick a destination folder. Large files are split into 64 MiB parts and continue uploading in the background, so an interrupted transfer resumes instead of starting over. Every completed upload is checked against the object on the server before the local staged copy is removed.
Uploads and downloads use Wi-Fi only until you turn on cellular use in Settings.
Moving your settings to another device
Settings can be exported to a password-protected .driveconfig
file and imported on another device. Use a password you can reproduce — the
file cannot be recovered without it.
Known limitations
- Objects larger than 5 GB cannot be renamed or moved, because a single-request server-side copy is limited to that size.
- No file preview, no thumbnails, no automatic sync, no local cache.
- Files app (File Provider) integration is not included in this version.
Troubleshooting
- Test Connection fails. The Activity Log tab distinguishes a wrong bucket from a wrong key and from a permissions problem — check there first.
- An upload sits at "Waiting for Wi-Fi". Either connect to Wi-Fi, or enable cellular use in Settings.
- An upload is stuck. Open the Uploads tab and pull to refresh; incomplete transfers are reconciled when the app is opened.
